LEDDY TUBE MARINE D&N can be installed in Aquael covers and lamps. Thanks to the use of T5 / T8 accessory adapters, it can also be installed in any cover or lamp dedicated to traditional aquarium fluorescent lamps. The accessory DUBLED hanger allows you to add an additional module to the lamp or cover and thus increase the illumination of the tank.
The LEDDY TUBE MARINE D&N LED module is equipped with Day & Night function. It works in three operating modes: DAY / DAYBREAK / NIGHT. DAY is the basic and most powerful light to illuminate the aquarium during the day. DAYBREAK is a reduced daylight power of up to 50% plus blue light. It works well as the first mode after the night and when feeding fish – especially if you have a skittish stock. NIGHT is a blue glow that allows you to uniquely observe the aquarium after dark, including fish and nocturnal animals. Day & Night lighting will beautifully expose the arrangement in the aquarium both during the day and at night, and will also make the interior of the room in which the tank is located more cozy. Changing the DAY / DAYBREAK / NIGHT operating mode occurs after switching the module off and on with the switch in no more than 5 seconds. Switching directly to DAY mode takes place after turning off the module for more than 5 seconds and turning it back on. It is best to automate this process using a modern aquarium controller SOCKET DUO.
Modern LEDs vs. traditional fluorescent lamps, incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps
Properly selected LEDs are the basic source of light in modern aquarism. They effectively displaced the previously used fluorescent lamps, incandescent bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps from the market. Compared to them, they have a number of advantages. They allow for a significant reduction in electricity consumption, because by producing the same amount of light as fluorescent lamps, they consume up to half as much. And this translates into both lower electricity bills beneficial for the aquarist’s pocket and environmental protection. They do not often have to be replaced with new ones, because they can work up to 15,000 hours, which again is associated with a large saving of money, environmental protection and less labor intensity. At the same time, they do not unnecessarily heat the water in the aquarium, they shine directionally only towards the water surface (so you do not need to use additional reflectors), besides, unlike traditional fluorescent lamps, they have a two-year manufacturer’s warranty.
How much light in the aquarium?
How much light does a reef aquarium require? Usually, the conversion of its power to the tank volume is used. In the case of using LED modules, the amount from 0.6 to 0.72 W for each liter of water is considered optimal, assuming that the tank is not higher than 21,7-23,6 inch (in the case of higher tanks, this amount increases rapidly). About half should be white light and the rest actinic light. Along with the acquired experience and preferences of the aquarium owner, the proportions of white and blue light can be modified to adapt them to the desired growth rate of corals and the stage of development of the tank.
How to combine white and actinic light? Well, the former should shine continuously for 8-10 hours during the day, and the latter for 10-14 hours. It looks like the actinic light should be switched on first, after about an hour or two white light should come to it. After the mentioned 8-10 hours, the white light should be turned off, and the actinic light should go out about an hour or two after it. It is best to automate this process using a modern aquarium controller SOCKET DUO.
The “day” in the aquarium can fall on virtually any part of the day. If the tank stands far from the windows and is illuminated only by artificial light, the hours of switching on and off the lighting can be practically any. It is best to simply adapt them to our preferences and the hours when we are usually present in the apartment (e.g. “dawn” at 3 PM and “dusk” at 1 AM). We can then enjoy the beauty of our own “piece of the ocean”
